The Iowa coaching staff has added a long snapper with Hawkeye ties. Illinois native Austin Spiewak will be joining the team as a preferred walk-on this fall, passing up scholarship offers from Memphis and Central Michigan to fulfill a lifelong dream.

"That's where my grandpa (Gary Grouwinkel) coached and played," Spiewak said. "He was on the last Iowa team to win the Rose Bowl (1959)."

"It's been my lifelong dream to play for Iowa and I have finally achieved that," said Spiewak, who is a 6-foot-2, 220-pound senior at Fremd High School in Palatine, IL.

Grouwinkel, his grandfather, was a three-year letterwinner under Hall of Fame head coach Forest Evashevski at Iowa in the 50's. Following his playing career, Grouwinkel had a long coaching career at both the high school and college level, including a stint at Iowa in the late 60's.
