After receiving a scholarship offer from the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday, it did not take Illinois cornerback Camron Harrell long to decide. The 5-foot-10, 181-pound Harrell made the call and verbally committed to the Iowa coaching staff 24 hours later on Sunday afternoon.

"Before I start I just want to thank God for all the opportunities he has given me throughout my life," said Harrell in a statement on Twitter. "As well as my friends, family, and coaches."

"I know I just got offered but I know my heart wants to be a Hawkeye," he continued. "I'm proud to announce that I am committed to the University of Iowa."

Harrell, who visited for Iowa's spring game, really saw interest picked up from the Hawkeyes after he attended their one-day camp in early June. There, he quickly impressed defensive coordinator Phil Parker with his skill set at cornerback.

The camp performance led to an invite to the Hawkeye Tailgater this weekend, where Harrell learned more about the program and picked up an offer from Kirk Ferentz.

"It was such a relief because I was wondering for a while if I would be a scholarship guy for them and hearing that from Coach Ferentz was amazing," Harrell said on Saturday.

"I love Iowa," he added. "Great people, town, football, just overall perfect."

Now, Harrell will be joining the program as commitment No. 11 in the Class of 2017 for the Hawkeyes.

As a junior, Harrell starred on both sides of the ball at Bradley-Bourbonnais High School, finishing the season with 931 yards receiving and 22 touchdowns in all. In his team’s post-season run to the Class 7A state semifinals, he scored 11 times in four games, including a six touchdown performance in the opening round.

Last month at the Illinois State Track Meet, Harrell finished 4th in the 100 meter dash (10.68) and 10th in the long jump (22-1.25).
